Five Question Friday!

I have been looking forward to this Friday since last Friday! I'm so excited to spend a whole weekend with Lynsie!

1. Is there something you've always wanted to try but just can't muster up the courage to actually do yet?
I'd love to go skydiving some day. I'm not scared, but the only person I can find that will go with me is my dad who was a paratrooper. But he's getting older and I may be over-exaggerating, but I'm scared of him breaking a bone or having a heart attack.

2. If you had $100 handed to you in cash without your significant other knowing about it, what would you spend it on?
I'd probably buy a couple more blazers or other kinds of "professional" clothes. I'm starting to need them more and more now that I"m at the station more.

3. What was your favorite piece of playground equipment as a child?
SWINGS! I love the feeling of falling that you get in your stomach. It's probably why I want to go skydiving and love amusement park rides!

4. Do you prefer a sweet or hearty breakfast?
It depends on my mood, but I love eggs and bacon and tortillas. But I also like donuts. I just eat more donuts to make up for the "hearty" breakfast.

5. Are you a Neat Freak or a Messy Bessy?
I'm definitely not a neat freak, mainly because I'm always running late so I never have time to put stuff away and when I do have time, I'm usually exhausted. I'm working on it. :)

I only have a few things left to pack then it's off to West Plains for the weekend! Be prepared for a huge picture update next week!

Thursday Five

It's Thursday Five..Where we get to look back on our week and and come up with 5 things that have made us..

Happy

Joyful

Excited

Jubilant

Grateful

Whatever you want..just no bad stuff..

Some weeks are harder..and we might have to dig deeper..but I guarantee you will find 5 things!

This week has been a very long one so I'm going to have to be general about a few things.

1. I'm getting OUT of Columbia for the weekend! I'm going to visit my dear friend Lynsie and my namesake cow. I'm so excited for multiple reasons - I'm seeing Lynsie, I'm getting up close and personal with a cow, I'm most likely having homemade ice cream, and I'm sleeping in the peace and quiet (that's also dark!). It's going to be a great weekend.

2. I'm starting to "fit" in at KOMU, which really means that I'm starting to come out of my shell with the people there that have been there longer than I have. It's a nice feeling.

3. I'm getting more confident at work. I've taken on more responsibilities and am still managing to survive, mostly on my own. It'll get better stress wise once my class is over (in about a month) so I just have to keep trucking along.

4. I finally had a story work out for me during my shift yesterday. Being able to get people to call me back is refreshing.

5. Speaking of reporting, I can't express how thankful I am to be in the Missouri School of Journalism. I'm starting to see more and more that the students are trained in a different way than other schools and I'm thankful to get as much experience as possible.

That was actually a little harder than I thought it would be. Now I'm going back to MannLand5 to link up!

Tonight will be full of cleaning my room and packing for this weekend! So exciting!

5 Question Friday!

I've been waiting for this all day. It was my driving force through work this afternoon.
It's 5 Question Friday from Five Crooked Halos!

1. Do you have an iPhone and, if so, how do you get apps and what are your favorites?
I do have an iPhone - the original to be exact. I get my apps from iTunes or the App Store. My favorite ones have to be Facebook, TweetDeck, and Foursquare. I'm addicted to social media.

2. What is your fondest memory of K-3rd grade?
I loved 2nd and 3rd grade, so I'll pick a memory from each. I was in 2nd grade when my little brother Mathew was born. I remember bringing bubble gum cigars that said "it's a boy!" on them and being so proud. I love my baby brother. In 3rd grade, I had my first teacher that recognized my abilities and allowed me to test them. I was the only kid reading 5th grade material and doing 5th grade math. I remember working on a project directly with the teacher while the rest of the class was doing their other things. I loved Mr. Hendrickson.

3. What makes you cringe at the thought of touching?
Mashed potatoes. Actually, that makes me want to gag more than cringe.

4. If you could have any celebrity show up on your doorstep who would it be and why?
Robin Williams or Julie Andrews. They are my two favorite celebrities.

5. What would you say is your best physical feature?
I hate these types of questions. I think it makes me sound conceited. But if I have to answer, I'd say my smile/dimples. Or that's what people tell me.

It's Friday night and I'm exhausted. I've been working and reporting constantly. I'm only home to sleep. I plan on laying either in bed or by the pool all day tomorrow. I'll update more on my current frustrations with work and life in general sometime soon.

Katy's 21st

Katy (my roommate and best friend) turned 21 on May 11th.

We went to Applebee's around 11:30 to celebrate by having her boyfriend make her first drink! Since I was legal already, I got my mudslide sooner and she got water :). Then by the time she turned 21, mine was gone. It seriously tastes like a milkshake!
Yay for being 21!

The next day we had a final together (my first and her last) and afterwards to celebrate both her birthday and her being a senior in college, we went to Quinton's Bar and Grill to have lunch.

Then we went to the Winery in Rocheport where we were later joined by a few other people. It was a little chilly when we first got there but it warmed up thankfully.

Then somehow I ended up giving Patrick a foot massage even though I hate feet. Yes, it was the kind of afternoon.

The rest of the evening was spent at our apartment and going to a bar for a few drinks after dinner. Overall, I would describe this birthday as memorable.

I finished finals (barely) and now am dealing with allergies that moved into my lungs, causing my asthma to not react well. Besides hacking up a lung, I've just been working and relaxing. My class starts on Tuesday, but in reality, it's not your typical class. I report two days a week and then have lecture for an hour and 15 min on Friday. Not bad at all. I'll just be spending every waking moment besides that at work. Yikes.

People are slowly starting to leave town. Lynsie left last week, a friend is leaving Wednesday, and Katy is leaving Thursday. I'll be home alone all summer. But I plan on making use of this time to just relax and read after a long semester.

Tomorrow starts my 8 am - 6 pm work shifts so I plan on taking today to do whatever my heart desires.

Five Question...Saturday?

I was quite busy yesterday with a friend in town and work, I never got the chance to do 5 Question Friday from Five Crooked Halos! Since this weeks was kind of interesting, I decided to do it anyways.

1. Take your pick...date night, girls night out, or night out alone?
I'd prefer a girls night in. Or a date night in. I'm a hermit and would much rather order for take out and watch a good movie than go out.

2. Can you touch your nose with your tongue?
Ha. Actually I can, but when I do it, it makes my tongue look fat so I try not to.

3. What is your favorite flower and why?
Right now, I'm going through a tulip phase. I think it's just because of spring. Usually I like Irises because they aren't the normal rose. But if I had to choose a rose, I'd choose orange ones because they're different.

4. If you could go back in time, what advice would you give yourself?
It all depends on what time period in my life I would go back to. Overall, I'd just tell myself to keep my head up and keep going. Things will get better.

5. If you won the lottery, what is the very first thing you would do?
Leave Columbia. I would go on a vacation somewhere away from here. Far far away from here.

I've written this while watching Goonies so I'll try to write a quick update after the movie on what's been happening since I last posted (which isn't too much other than a new look for the blog obviously).

Life Update

I feel like I have been keeping up with the blogging as much as possible but as I have been looking through my photos lately, I've noticed I've missed an event and also want to blog about a few recent ones!

First thing I missed was a trip to the winery! I can't tell you when it happened exactly, but it was a few weekends ago. We met Katy's boyfriend's parents, her boyfriend, his brothers, and a few friends at the winery in Rocheport. It was a lot of fun just sitting outside talking with everyone and munching on a few snacks. I wasn't 21 yet so this meant no wine for me but it was still a fun time.
Of course this meant Katy and I got to get a little dressed up and made for some great photo opportunities! We hung around the winery for a few hours then everyone but me and Katy rode their backs back to town (about a 40 minute ride) while Katy and I tried to explore downtown Rocheport. However, according to other people, we didn't go far enough into town to really see it. Considering we only saw an antique store and a few run down homes, I'd say I bet they were right. Hopefully the next time we go we will actually find what is supposed to be a really cute downtown area! We went back to Katy's boyfriend (Luke)'s house that he shares with his two brothers, another roommate, two dogs, and a cat (my nephew kitty!). The picture of the puppy is the youngest Odom boy with his baby Konah. This picture is just too precious. The rest of the night was spent at the Pasta Factory downtown and back at the Odom's house. I think I ate to much because I ended up calling it an early night after a tummy ache.

Thursday, April 29th and Friday, April 30th were back to back reporting shifts for me. I did two different stories with only an 8 hour break from the station in two days. Yikes. I'll post links to the stories on YouTube when I get time to upload them to the site.

Then on Friday it was Lynsie's birthday! Since our birthdays were so close, we ended up sort of celebrating them together! We went to Jazz for dinner on Friday with Sara and Claudia Meadows (Claudia works in my department at work and Sara used to work there). I was so excited when they gave me my present!  I have been asking for years for an edible arrangement from my parents and they got me one! I was so excited. There's nothing left of it now, but it was yummy! We took a few pictures at the table, but they all came out blurry, so we took one outside the restaurant. It was a lot of fun! I'm very thankful for such sweet friends.

Then at midnight, I turned 21! I took my first legal shot a little after midnight but since I had been on a reporting marathon, I passed out early. I was exhausted. 11 hours of sleep in 48 hours wasn't going to cut it! But the next morning was filled with mimosas and presents from Katy! I knew about the Anberlin tickets but the card they came in was too precious! Absolutely perfectly describes the relationship I have with Katy. She also got me a cup and a tiara. The tiara is an annual thing and the cup may sound weird, but it made perfect sense to us. I sometimes like to bring iced tea in my current water bottle but later, no matter how much I wash it, the part I drink out of tastes like tea. But with this cup, it won't taste like tea for the next few days! I love it.

I went to lunch with Lynsie and Katy (Sara and Claudia were at a Cardinals game) at Chili's. We celebrated Lynsie's birthday as well so I brought a tiara for her too :). It was really yummy and we got to get two free desserts since we were celebrating two birthdays. It was fun! I also got to get my first legal drink - a Strawberry Margarita!
Katy and I then went to Rolla to see our favorite band! It was a blast! It completely ruined the CD because it was so much better live! It was only my second concert other than the Backstreet Boys in 5th grade. And Katy is way better of a chaperone than my dad :) Three other bands played but we weren't as familiar with them as we are with Anberlin. But it was lots of fun and I mean who doesn't love spending time with Katy?

Yesterday was my last broadcast 2 class. It was kind of sad because I came so far from thinking my teacher was going to eat me to being able to joke around with him. I know I'll be seeing him this summer and in the future at the station so I'm not as sad as I thought I would have been though. We had a party in our lab and had tons of cookies, popcorn, and soda. This is my lab minus two people. One had a reporting shift so she wasn't there and the other had to leave early. But we had lots of fun and I'm glad I was able to come a little more out of my shell to bond a little bit more with them than I would have if my shell hadn't come off.

Yesterday was also a happy day because I found out I have a cow named after me! Lynsie's parents bought cows and I had mentioned that I thought they should get a white cow and name it Maggie! It's not a white one but it's light tan which is like me! Lynsie's mom said in a week or two I'll be able to feed it and pet it. I'm so excited. I'm definitely going to have to talk to Lynsie and find a time for me to come see baby Maggie!

Now that I've gotten all that out, I'm headed off to work! Hope you have a great day!

Top 2 Tuesday

Top Two Tuesday thanks to the Undomestic Momma

Before I do a very long blog update, I figured I should probably get to my Top 2 Tuesday since there are only 2 hours to spare before it isn't Tuesday anymore!

Today's topic: Top 2 Things You Splurge On

1. Massages: I used to try to get one at least once a semester, but this year has really been busy and trying to schedule something like that in advance was rough. But I decided to treat myself to one for my 21st birthday and to prep for finals. I'm scheduled Thursday at noon!

2. Lacoste Perfume: I am quite picky about my perfumes but I have three favorites, two of which are from Lacoste. I have one for the summer (A Touch of Pink) and one for the winter (Inspiration). I also use Juicy Couture perfume in the winter too. I like the heavier scents for the colder months and the lighter ones for the warmer months.

I'll be back. I have quite the few updates to write about. :)
